Neat! Very awesome, as well as very well-written, too. I especially like this part best:
“So, the marketplace is there, the church is there and the rest of the world does not exist, right?”
“Michael…we are a bit different. Closer knit….up to the level of being suffocated within your own family. Everything happens in the family where I came from. We have fun in family, we quarrel in family, we even fight in family, with pretty much everybody present to witness the proceedings.”
“Well, if he wants to be able to pass something to your brother, your father has to come down here and do things by my rules.”
Seraphina shakes her head and rubs her tummy.
“It will be a night with two moons when papa does things by anybody else’s rules.”
“The IRS will help him paint the second moon on the sky, Sera. You don’t play Don Corleone with these guys, baby. My own father nearly met the insides of a federal prison because of them. So, trust me, I know what I’m talking about.”
“Your dad??? For real???”
“Some 5 or 6 years ago. He wanted to drag me in a rotten deal, I said no, he said yes in my name, got the money from some Korean guy, spent it and did some stupid swindling deals to get the money again when the Korean asked for it back. Your dad isn’t half that bad, but he’s in hot waters, too. The IRS aren’t a joke.”

Aw that was so sweet for Connie to name the baby after Michael. A beautiful moment for them after the hell their father brought in earlier. He must've been really upset that Michael was showing him his true colors; that's the only reason I can think of as to why he'd hit him.

That guy deserves everything Michael is throwing at him and I'm sure he knows it. He can't possibly believe, with all his beliefs and customs, that what he's done to his daughter is acceptable.

Well, if we think of his mentality - I am the boss, I rule everyone - it is not surprising that even in trouble he won't accept his mistakes and still do things his way. But of course, he STILL hasn't met with the legal troubles that the IRS has in the making for him...

Neat! Very awesome, as well as very well-written, too. I like this chapter, especially this part:
Just then my mobile phone rings. Before I can even see who’s calling, Michael took it and looks at the caller ID with a frown. However he answers.
“Yes, Connie….this is absolutely the worst moment to call….oh….oh really?....Did they?”
He makes a scoffing face and keeps talking, walking to and fro.
“Yes, Connie, thank you. Thank you for trying. We’ll be back in a few days and I’ll deal with this. OK…thanks, again. I’ll tell her. We love you, too. Bye!”
“What did Concetta want?”
“She and Alfredo contacted the TV news crew to tell them the other side of the story….how we helped them get married and settled down…how Vince used to drink and hit you…But they were turned down. Apparently, a good, positive story about me has no news value. She’s telling you to be strong and not to let those bastards make you cry. She and Alfredo send all their love…See, Seraphina? There are people who will back us up and speak for you. And just wait till my sister LaToya gets started on the matter. She’s always been the big mouth in our family…for good and for bad. But right now, she’s gonna be on our side, too.”
“Michael…I am sorry.”
“Sera! You??? Sorry??? For what?!”
“For…for being so stupid and insecure…”
“No…stop…I don’t want you to think like this. THEY had no right to do what they did. THEY created this mess. YOU will not be sorry and will not apologize to anybody.”
His arms are around me and I start crying again.
“You are the real victim here, Seraphina. I’m used to this…I’ve learned how to deal with it and how to live with it. You are just an innocent girl who only wants the simplest thing ever: a quiet life, a happy family. I promise you…on the wedding vows which I took and hold sacred…I’ll give you the happy family you deserve. I can’t promise you peace and quiet…but I can promise that the bastards who did this to us on our honeymoon are gonna pay! Mark my words, Sera, I rarely snap…but when I do, God help whoever got me so pissed off!”
Once again, his strength and determination make me quiver in his arms. This is a real man…this is my man…my husband! I draw a deep breath and lift my head up to meet his gaze.
“WE will fight this, Michael. You said it, we are a team. One thing they forgot when they trashed my good name like this. The worst woman in history, Lucrezia Borgia, was an Italian like me! And now they’ll see just why it’s never a wise decision to mess with an Italian woman!”
Ooh, I hope that Sera will encourage and inspire Michael to do the right thing and fight this battle, like a real woman does, and also like a warrior king and warrior queen would do in stories. :)
