Let me jump on this "complicated" (but don't have to be) situation with Michael and Nye. Whenever you stay with someone who hurts themselves out of guilt sends an entirely wrong message. Michael is telling me (imo) that he's only with Nye for the fear that she'll pop some pills again and try to take her life. I get it he cheated but he can't put all of that (cheating and Nye's unsuccessful suicide attempt) on his heart or it will weigh heavy, which, p.s. it already did. Like I said before yes, he loves her, but he isn't in love with her and he needs to notice the difference. And once he does then he will choose what is best for him not for Nye.
They say a woman should never settle, well I believe a man should never settle either. They've been together for five years, they have history that's understandable, but history ain't got shit on connection.
Now I'm not saying that Michael should leave Nye and run straight to Pen, no. Because how you get a man is how you lose him so Mike needs to get away from Nye and have some time for himself for a little while. Take a breather and not be up under a woman.
Basically, he needs to get his shit together.

Michael did take it to heart the guilt of Nye hurting herself. It can be crippling for a person to feel that what they do could trigger someone doing something so drastic. He's learning better now what Nye's drive is so we know from the first chapter that he had to let go of that. But we'll get there. No one should ever settle when it comes to love. I don't nessesary think how you get a man is how you lose him. In some cases it is in others not so much. But we will see. <333

I have two reasons why he might be feeling guilty:
1. He cheated on Nye who is his fiance and he loves her (just not in love with her anymore) so he doesn't want to see her hurt.
2. He's brought Pen into a mess that he knows won't be pretty once shit hits the fan and he genuinely cares for her too (maybe even fall in love with her as the story progresses) and doesn't want to see her hurt.
When morning comes I feel in my gut that Michael is going to call the whole ordeal a mistake or Pen will or they'll both regret and decide it was a one time only thing and go about their day. <<< denial at its finest.
