Fred was mentioned in an earlier chapter..hes a classmate who smells and they joked that she could get paired up with him instead of michael
when they were listening to music in the car prince played and she sang along then they got in a debate of who was a better artist. she said while her friends were team MJ she was team Prince meaning the ongoing debate of who was a better singer.

You know, just for some FYI, there are blind people who still have some of their sight (like myself)
And, I had a friend that when we went to school together, though he had a cane, he never used it and walked around school with know problem. He is completely blind.
