I completely understand!!! As early as chapter 31 I wrote in the end notes that you guys would either love me or hate me in the end. (I know you don't actually hate me lol) But I knew it would come at a price. And you're right about some of the symptoms of grief and shock. I guess I was straddling the fence there too. I don't know whether I'm happy that Pen lived or that I'm upset that you manipulated our emotions with a dream sequence. Well, I'm happy that she lived, of course, I guess I'm just also turned off by the use of a dream sequence to mess with the readers' emotions to this extent. I get it earlier in the story, when it is obviously a dream sequence, but when it's this far in and used as a cliffhanger for a chapter. IDK. I get that you wanted to add suspense and a little twist...
I can't really comment on this chapter. I couldn't keep reading after that dream sequence was confirmed. Sorry :/

Awe. I'm sorry you didn't read to the end. I however completely understand how you feel about it. Your honesty is most welcomed. My intention for the sequence to happen so late in he story is one of reflection. It wouldn't have really worked earlier on in the story. It was more to manipulate Michael's emotions to solidify what he already knew to be true. For him to understand (and the reader) just how devastating things could have been if things went the other way. It was a 50/50 chance which I chose to show both sides of. It was risky I know. It was to show that as lovey dovey as they are that its not all a fantasy. It's real and loses like that can happen. (I just didn't want for him to actually lose her or their baby)Both him and Pen where dreaming. Him of the worst that could happen magnified by his lack of sleep and her of what the future held quantified by anesthesia. I did try to drop a few hints in the last chapter that it was a dream. Like him always saying how cold it was or how time and movement just happened without him understanding how it happened. I knew on some level that it would be jarring for you guys but with me knowing the outcome held on to the hope that you guys would stick with me. I know it must have ruined the whole fic for you and I apologize about that. I'm just seeing through the story I envisioned when I started. I don't know if this gave you any descernable insight to my mind set. I hope you do finish reading even if you don't comment. <333

I can understand how Mike probably felt at the moment. But, I'm starting to agree with Mike though. I think they are having a little girl.
