I love how beautifully insert the flashbacks into the present time (and without notifying the reader). I feel like I am watching a movie. And even if the flashback does not seem to immediately connect to the present time presented in the same chapter, it feels like it is not random at all.
Malania has had a hard life. I loved the scene between her and her father, they seem to have a beautiful relationship.

That was so sweet of Michael to give her the painting and even cuter that he suggested a Malania original in its place. I hope these two can eventually save each other. Her dad's gift was so unique how did you even think of that? lol

Author's Response:

I remember Chris Tucker saying he mentioned to MJ that he liked his TV and MJ told him to take it. Like, literally started unplugging that shit and getting it together so that he could take it. It never surprises me lol.

The puzzle boxes... I have a collection of them. lol. My boyfriend and I are Japanophiles... I got a beautiful one from him for my last bday :)

Was not expecting the suicide attempt. Wow.

The part about Michael feeling like he had to buy friendship hit me particularly hard as well...

Very sad chapter...I'm hoping that at some point things go up hill, but I know that the story has to take it's natural path.

More backstory on them both please! Is Beth gone for good?

Author's Response:

I seriously laughed when Michael gave her the painting. I bet she looked like a burglar when she left his house. I like the subtle exchanges between the two as they spy eachother's scars. You now have me more curious about Malania's background and the circumstances leading to her cutting "too deep". There are so many ways that you can go with that. Though, I'm particularly drawn to the fact that she didn't want her brothers visiting her. Hearing that sets off a bunch of hypotheses in my mind.

a) Sexual abuse by a brother?
b) verbal/emotional abuse by a brother(s)?
c) them simply not being "safe" figures for her

I'm also curious as to the timing of her hospitalization....her father also sure took that calmer than most parents, regardless of their cultural background. Is her dad a pilot? Then, that would make sense.

Oh, and I love mystery boxes.

Can't wait until her next visit to Hayvenhurst!
