I guess you could call this the annual 'proof of life' for MJF admin. We hope you guys are off to a great year.

Just a reminder to those who are submitting membership requests - please only submit ONCE. Completing more forms doesn't speed up the process. It just fills up our inboxes. Accounts are created on average of once per month and in the order they are recieved. There are only two of us and this is a labor of love which falls on top of all our other daily obligations.

We are aware of a number of kinks in the website. The platform stopped being updated years ago, so addressing these takes time and a lot of skill. If you have that skill, please reach out. Otherwise, please do not get snarky with us when we are not able to fix something asap or give you a clear timeline. Again, we are not paid (and rather, pay for this site) and have outside responsibilities. We DO love that people are active and care. We just also can't be everywhere at once.

Just piping up because I realize that there hasn't been any "news" in a long long time. We are still here, accounts are still being created, and it's great to see authors updating and readers commenting :)

Self registration is closed. Since opening registration over a dozen members created duplicate accounts (many creating multiple duplicate accounts despite email notifications) and a spammer created over a dozen accounts. We hate having to close it (again), but we don't have the time or interest in continuing this pattern of deleting accounts.

Current members: Thank you again to those who have donated. If we are to reopen registration permanently or modernize the site, we will need to do some additions to the site, which will cost money. We received many offers to donate money when the site went down, and a few of those members have followed through on these. Unfortunately, the upfront costs of MJFiction are high as we came in after years of neglect to the site's maintenance. If you have a couple dollars to spare, please consider using the PayPal function. This will be the last request I post.

L.O.V.E.

As many noticed, the site was down for several days in mid-June and it was just down for almost a week in July. As those who emailed us during June realized - neither myself or Skywriter were aware that was going to happen. After getting in touch with the former owner, we realized MJFiction had two options:

A) We could purchase it and keep it alive

B) It would be dead within a month and members would receive as much warning as we got when it went offline.

None.

That it came back at all was an odd burst of fortune that we unintentionally caused, and which upset the former owner. This is a problem several sites have come face to face with in the past year, and it's a fact of nature. People move on and interests and priorities change and connection to the MJ fan community fades.

Since you are reading this, I trust it is clear which path we chose. We are sorry that we didn't share more beforehand, or during the downtime, but we had to wait until the handover was complete. There were many additional complications over the past week, which were an immense headache and reaffirmed the reason why we couldn't wait any longer to transfer the site. We try our best to be as transparent as possible, as we know what it is like to be on the other side and really value your activity on here.

We hope to see you guys visiting, posting, and reviewing on here for years to come. There will likely be a few bumps and glitches as we update the appearance and fix some bugs, so please bear with us. If we are ever short with you, know it is because we already have busy lives, so this isn't a transition of convenience. However, we've made efforts to set up this partnership in a way that will make sure the continuance of the site is not dependent on the whims of a single person's interest. What it was, is, and will be, is a labor of love. For both us, and we hope, for each person who reads this. MJFiction is here to honor Michael and serve as a place for fans to join together and share and honor each others' creativity.

Skye and Redone

After a week of chaos, hundreds of emails, panic, and mourning of the physical loss of Michael, we come together and look towards the future of MJFiction.

Namely, we are looking at ways we can ensure MJFiction can continue to honor Michael's legacy through the distant future. Part of that will entail instituting a number of updates to the site. It's outdated and buggy. We know. These would/could involve the following:

- New appearance

- Reactivating the Registration feature (I can hear everyone who is annoyed with my questions cheering. Sorry, occupational hazard). This will only be possible with the understanding that any duplicates created would result in a permanent ban. That means, if you think you have a previous account, ALWAYS email me at mjf.redone@gmail.com with whatever information you have, so that I can check for you and make sure you don't end up having future problems on the site.

- Fixes of glitches/bugs

- More contests

Part of this would require $$. Having received multiple offers for donations, we are wondering if this would be a feature you would appreciate on the site. All donations would ONLY go back into the site, to ensure that it continues for years and years to come.

 

Please let us know your thoughts on these ideas and feel free to add your own ideas. I can't guarantee all will be possible; all will be considered.

First - Happy (late) New Years! Over the last 6 years members have joined, read, wrote, left, returned, and referred other fans. For all of this, we are forever grateful.

 

We realize that the revamp has been ridiculously delayed and for that we apologize. Plans for that have been pushed back multiple times due to issues we have not fully elaborated upon. While we won't go into details, here is a brief sum of what has taken place behind the scenes over the past 12 months:

- Over 1200 duplicate accounts were identified and deleted

- Several dozen people have attempted to create more duplicate accounts (and are still regularly attempting!)

- A member was identified as having plagiarized another writer (thanks to an awesome reader!!) and permanently banned.

- It was discovered members were aware that a story from here had been plagiarized and did not notify the author or the admins.

- We've fielded countless emails from members who despite our many attempts to raise awareness of the rules, still expressed feeling they should not apply to them.

- People have continued to attempt to exchange emails despite this being a violaton of the Rules and TOS.

- There's rarely a day that goes by where I don't get an email in which someone is blatantly lying to me. Please, to those who are considering it - don't assume I'm ignorant. If I am in the moment, sooner or later the truth will shake out.

So please, if we ever seem short or it seems like things aren't happening, know that we remain active and our time is occupied by website matters that aren't so obvious. In the meantime, feel free to email us if you have questions, concerns, or have difficulty accessing your account. Given the problems mentioned above, accounts will only be opened by email request for the foreseeable future.

I don't like to make examples of anyone, but I have encountered a few users who are straight-up rude and/or unkind to other members of this website.

As a writer myself, I believe in constructive critisism and honest reviews. I do not, however, agree with someone insulting a writer, their writing style, their plot and whatever else.

Writer's go to a lot of effort with their work to share with everyone -- with those who write and read or those who just visit to read. No one here gets paid for their MJ fictions and thus do not need to encounter nastiness from fellow members.

Try to remember what we were taught as children; if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it.

We are watching. We will not tolerate bullying, intimidation or nastiness on this website. If you have experienced some untoward treatment from other members, please let one of us admins know immediately.

I personally uphold a zero tolerance policy for bullying and nastiness and will lock accounts for extended periods of time if necessary.

It has come to my attention that there have been users questioning MJF admin's decisions regarding certain rules and safety measures.

If you have any issue with an admin decision regarding any matter, please feel free to email us. Any administrative decisions that have been made are not to be debated in blogs, comments sections and/or other.

Please consider that any decision made is not made lightly and many factors are taken in to consideration not just by one member, but by the majority of us. There are also factors that other members may not be aware of; all decisions are made to increase the safety of this website for all users.

Also, this website will not be used to gain contact with previous/banned/deleted members. Do not ask other members for personal email accounts or any other forms of communication; again for the reasons stated above.
